Haunted Handcrafted Treats, Devilish DIY Kits, and, of course, Pumpkin Bread

Jen M.Comment

Trick or treating this year? Probably not so much. While we agree that this year has been full of tricks, we’re doing our best to focus on the better part of that duo… THE TREATS.

We say, why not wear a costume all month? I mean, we already wear masks everyday, anyway.

Why not enjoy Halloween treats every day during October? Better yet, do some ghoulish gifting and surprise friends and loved ones with some spooktacular sweets throughout the month.

We’ve lined up a creepy collection of treats for the entire month, from DIY cake, scone, and cookie decorating kits, to our super-giftable Spooky Sweets box. Shop online for local pickup or delivery, or nationwide shipping.

Don’t forget to eat far too much fresh roasted pumpkin bread this month. It’s an October requirement.

Happy Haunting!

If we’ve learned anything during this pandemic, it’s how to spend A LOT more time at home, hopefully without going stir-crazy. You’ve most likely delved into making sourdough (and feeding that starter baby diligently!), reorganized every room in the house, perfected Zoom meeting etiquette, and taken more walks in your neighborhood than you every thought possible. You’ve exhausted breakfast, lunch, and dinner recipes, and some days, you just want to eat crackers for every meal because your OVER IT.

Enter our full line of Bake-at-home doughs and batters. Open the pouch, pop them in the oven, set the timer, and voila! You’ve been transported to the bakery and back home without even changing out of your pajamas. Without a doubt, 4th of July Celebrations will be a bit different this year. No shoulder to shoulder firework watching, crowded parades, or giant backyard BBQs. While traditions may need to be set aside this year, we are all for celebration, even if that is solo, with one person, with your family, or with your social bubble!

We are all about nostalgia at Batter, and what better time than summer to share nostalgic treats. One of our favorites? Summer fruit shortcake! Split biscuits, dollop with lightly sweetened cream, and pile high with fresh seasonal fruit. Here are a few of our secret tips to making your shortcake the best it can be this summer!

1.} Bake biscuits fresh (choose from our classic cream biscuits or sweet corn biscuits, both available at our shop or through Good Eggs) or toast already baked biscuits in a 350 degree oven for 10 min so the edges are crisp. Texture contrast is everything!

2.} Add a heaping spoonful of mascarpone to your whipped cream to keep it stable! This way, you can prep your whipped cream in advance without worrying about separation or the cream going flat. Don’t forget the vanilla, and lightly sweeten with granulated or powdered sugar if desired.

3.} For juicy berries, toss with a light coating of fruit jam, or macerate with a squeeze of lemon juice and a tablespoon of sugar. Those fresh biscuits will soak up all the juicy goodness!

4.} Prep your ingredients ahead, but assemble at the last minute. Even better, make a shortcake buffet for people to assemble their own with desired amounts of ingredients (extra whipped cream for us, please!)

Need some help with your 4th of July desserts? Pick some up from the shop Thurs, Fri, or or Ferry Plaza farmer’s market Sat!

Well, a few months into the pandemic and we’ve met a whole new reality. This summer won’t be filled with festivals, group park picnics, and backyard BBQs with shared bowls of chips like usual. International vacations will only happen in dreams, and we probably won’t even be going to the movie theater anytime soon. Yet, we have Zoom! Zoom fitness, meetings, cocktail hours, and even dates have become the norm. Let’s add some Zoom baking to the mix.

Gather a group of friends and family (from across the country, even!), pull out those mixing bowls, and bake at home with live instruction, tips, and tricks from Batter’s owner, Jen. While we won’t be making our secret-recipe Sand Angels, we have a whole collection of tasty seasonal recipes perfect for recreating at home.

Zoom baking classes each include two recipes, and run 1.5-2 hours, depending on the pace of your group. Classes are $40 per person, and we request a 10 person minimum. Interested? Email jen@batterbakery.com to schedule.
