Batter Bakery

Love is in the air..

Or maybe that's the smell of Valentine cookies.

For all of you (mostly men) who have asked me, "What day is Valentine's Day?!?", IT'S FEBRUARY 14. Every single year. Same day, always. Now that we've cleared that up, let's talk about what sort of treats you should give your friend/coworker/crush/boss/mom/dad/dog walker/spouse. We have treats appropriate for just about anyone in your life. You can add the secret love note, sappy card, or snarky Valentine message as you see fit.

AWESOME FRIEND: Better Than Flowers (Lavender Sea Salt) shortbread hearts + a Red Hot Red Velvet tiny cake.

CHOCOLATE LOVING COWORKER: Bittersweet Love Sandwich Cookies

ABOVE COWORKER THAT IS TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO YOUR CRUSH ON HIM/HER: Add a "Hot Stuff" hand decorated conversation heart to those sandos, and check out the reaction.

BOSS: A box of hand decorated shortbread hearts, plus an order of Valentine cookies for the office. Universally cute, and shows your team-building holiday spirit.

MOM: A"LOVE" brownie and box of dipped shortbread hearts. Mom probably says she doesn't like sweets, but secretly loves icing as much as the rest of us.

DAD: Bacon Date Cornmeal shortbread minis (good man cookies) and a "Hug Me" conversation heart. Everyone needs a good Dad-hug once in awhile.

DOG WALKER: A bag of Valentine confetti cookies, because when you see dog sh*t all day long, you probably need some extra sprinkles in your life.

SPOUSE (or future spouse candidate): "Honey, I Love You" shortbread hearts and a ganache drenched red velvetheart cake. Have a romantic night and eat some cake.

Pick up treats at any all of our retail locations in SF, on Good Eggs, and at various pop-up events in Portland! Be the office hero and book your order early for Friday 2/12 celebrations. Order for shipping by Wednesday 12/10.  Visit us at our usual 555 California Street concourse tables Thurs 2/11 10am-4pm and Friday 2/12 8am-sellout. Farmer's Market Saturday 2/13 will be filled with heart-shaped treats.

Sweet Valentine's Day, lovely people!

Are you ready for some football??

Jen M.Comment

In case you haven't heard, Super Bowl 50 is coming to the Bay Area this year. My good ol' college town of Santa Clara will be hosting the actual game at Levi's Stadium, but San Francisco has become the home base for a myriad of events. "Super Bowl City" has been dropped into the area in front of the Ferry Building & Embarcadero Center.  Some people are excited about this. Some people are up in arms about this. I hold the position of "We'll make you some cookies for this!"

Playful football-themed cookies (hand decorated shortbread, gingerbread footballs, team colored sandwich cookies) will be available at our shops (particularly Two Embarcadero Center location), on Good Eggs, and next Saturday at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market. For those of you wondering, yes the market is open! Come visit! Ride your bike, though, parking might be.. special. CUESA has put together a great Super Bowl 50 Survival Guide, and our vendor pals will be happy to have some local & out of town visitors.

Throw a Super Bowl party, and don't forget the treats!

New Year, New Breakfast... and Lots of News.

Jen M.Comment

As we settle into 2016, lots of changes here at Batter are in the works.

First, let's talk about breakfast. We know you've always thought of us for our scones (deemed the best in the city by many avid scone eaters). Those scones will still be popping out of the oven as always, BUT we've added all sorts of new breakfast offerings to the Polk Street cafe menu. Even better, they are healthful, fill-you-with-goodness ways to start & snack through your day. We have chia + almond overnight oats (pictured here), breakfast quinoa, Greek yogurt + grains, quiche and fritatta. Kale & farmer's market salads are packed up ready to grab & go for lunch, or enjoy here. Don't forget to add an egg (from our friends at Rolling Oaks Ranch, who have the best eggs EVER). Despite what you may think, bakers like healthful food, too, and are excited to share these new goods with you.

Next, let's talk about cake. Now you can come in for a slice of cake, or grab a small cake for that last minute dinner or birthday party. Give us a ring to see what we have in the case!

Finally, let's talk about change. Change is always a bit scary, but very exciting. The biggest change you will find when you come into the shop is that 2127 Polk is now ALL bakery (which is why we have all these new, lovely things to fill the case). Our sister company, Square Meals, who we have shared this shop with for four years, has decided to close. We wish Alison the best as she embarks on the next stage of her life adventure.  "What does this mean for Batter?!" you all ask.. It means that exciting changes are afoot!! We will be here until late Spring, while we work on building out our new bakery kitchen just a short jaunt up the hill (to earn you those cookies), at 1517 Pine Street. We'll have all of our Batter favorites, as well as new cafe items, and espresso (finally!). We'll also be adding many more baking classes & events to the agenda, to fill our cozy new space with friends, learning, and fabulous baked goods.

Stop in and enjoy some new treats this New Year, and we'll keep you posted on all the New News as we go!

Let's Celebrate! It's {almost} 2016!

Another year has flown by. How are we in the last few days of the year already!? Holiday decorations are slowly disappearing from the streets. The neighborhood has an unusual excess of parking spots. The silver & gold sprinkles & boozy baked goods are waiting to shine this Thursday night.

2015 was a mixed bag... plenty of challenges & obstacle courses presented themselves throughout the year. Who said owning a business is easy? No one, EVER. What stands out, though, is the amazing number of fantastic memories from 2015. A new van (albeit a sad goodbye to the Battermobile MINI). Clever Valentine sandwich cookie names.  New shortbread boxes! Naked cakes taking the wedding scene by storm. Saturdays at the Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market, sharing food & "wisdom" with Devoto, Nana Joes & Rolling Oaks. Almond butter chocolate raspberry cookies. Upside down cakes galore. Launching a new website. An epic Summer Celebration. Filming a Christmas cookie show smack in the middle of summer for Food Network. Expanding Batter to Portland. Gold stickers. Delirious late nights singing songs with staff. Signing a lease for our new store (more to come on this soon!).

The past year deserves some celebratory cookies, and a rainbow of icing. In the upcoming year we'll toss on the extra sprinkles.

Reflection aside, it's time to celebrate the beginning of 2016! We'll be at the Thursday market (Ferry Plaza) stocked with boozy & sweet party treats, closed Friday for some R&R, and waiting for you Saturday with open arms & recovery goodies [read: ice cream sandwiches],  as well as a slew of healthful new breakfast items at the shop.

Happy 2016, everyone! Cheers to another great year!

'Tis the season to make cookies, fa la la la la, la la la la

The holiday season is here in full force! Orders have been flooding in, gingerbread men have been running out the door, and gift boxes are being adorned with a little extra jingle. Christmas music has NOT graced the shop yet, but just wait. The Love Actually soundtrack will be looping soon enough.

Haven't started planning for your holiday festivities just yet? Don't worry, we'll help take care of all the sweet details. Find hand decorated shortbread, boozy cookies, snowballs, and gingerbread men aplenty. Looking for the perfect gift? Pre-order a Christmas Cookie Decorating Kit (pictured above) for pickup or shipping.

Client gift boxes, staff team-building cookie class, office party dessert bar... You name it, we can make it. The Batter elves are (quite literally) baking around the clock to make your holiday season A LOT SWEETER!

Don't forget the cookies for Santa.
